Two Things I Like A Lot
- Texas A&M University
- Improv Everywhere
and the third, which brings them together: - This American Life
You can watch the pilot episode online for free, and, although parental discretion is advised, the only disagreeable content that you may find is a description of being gored by a bull in a sensitive spot and a blurred-out middle finger.
Aside: my degree in computer science from A&M may never get me an easy break, but at least I can rest assured of the fact that my alma mater will always be in the news for our world-renowned animal husbandry program, for building huge fires for no reason at all, and for defining ourselves by who we aren’t.
P.S. I like Laura more. =)

Here’s an animated short from the televised version of This American Life, coming to Showtime on the 22nd. It was done by Chris Ware, who did the set of four cartoon covers from the Thanksgiving issue of The New Yorker. The story is about a class of elementary school children transformed by imaginary cameras. Check it out. You’ll like it. [via]

We’re Engaged!
On Saturday, March 3rd, I asked Laura Cherry to marry me, and she said yes! I’ve intended to write a long, detailed post describing the date, but I’ve been prevented from doing so by the craziness of the week, so it’ll have to wait a bit longer. I’ll keep you informed!

Not too many new words this month, probably because I didn’t do a whole lotta reading. :-\
- décolleté
- (adj) : (of a garment) having a low-cut neckline
- From Art Needs No Justification by H.R. Rookmaaker via “But I Know It When I See It” by Douglas Wilson
- “Although one cannot define the wrong kind of seductiveness or the right kind of prettiness and the attractiveness of a woman by the length of her skirt or the depth of the décolleté, nevertheless women know the exact boundaries, especially the seductive kind of women as they just play over the borderlines.”
- nomism (ninjawords / wiktionary didn’t have an entry)
- (noun) : religious conduct based on law
- “[E.P. Sanders] surveyed with immense erudition the rabbinic, Qumranic and apocryphal literature of Judaism from 200 BC to AD 200. And the religion which emerged from this study he characterized as ‘covenantal nomism’. That is, God had brought Israel into a covenant relationship with himself by his grace, and had then asked for obedience to his law (nomism) as their response.”
– From “Preliminary Essay”, pg. 26 in The Message of Romans by John R. W. Stott
It’s kind of interesting that, though I had antinomianism in my list last month, it never crossed my mind that it might be the antonym of another word.
