From Proverbs 24

hold back those staggering toward slaughter.
If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,”
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?
Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?…
I went past the field of the sluggard,
past the vineyard of the man who lacks judgment;
thorns had come up everywhere,
the ground was covered with weeds,
and the stone wall was in ruins.
I applied my heart to what I observed
and learned a lesson from what I saw:
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest –
and poverty will come on you like a bandit
and scarcity like an armed man.

Scripture in the Shower
Here’s a handy household tip: if you’re trying to memorize scripture, or a song, or whatever, and you write your memorization stuff on notecards, you can put them into a plastic Ziploc(tm) baggie and take it into the shower with you. Get the bag wet on one side, and it ought to stick to the tile wall. It’s easy and cheap and reusable, and if the card gets wet, you can always reprint it. Use a decent quality baggie if you have one, because the store brands typically aren’t waterproof. Don’t leave the same one up for too long, because eventually the moisture in the bag combined with whatever you had on your fingers when you wrote the card will go to mold. Might be useful if you like to sing in the shower but can never remember the words. ![]()
1007
Hi BishopCMB! It’s been 1007 (wow, that’s a big number) days since you joined Xanga… won’t you support us by going Premium?
Dang — in the lapse of my vigilance, I missed the 1000-day mark.
P.S. No.

I never quite finished the tale of the end of my trip, but that’s okay, because it was pretty boring. I’ve finally gotten around to putting my photos online, so if you’re interested, you can take a look at my flickr photostream or my “Dallas to Seattle” photoset. I’ve been updating the latter recently, but I’ve still only gotten as far as Day 9 in Big Sur; there will probably be about 40 more shots coming. I’d appreciate any comments that you’d like to leave, critical or otherwise.
In case you were interested, over 14 days I shot 1298 photos, which took about 4.3 GB, and I’ve uploaded roughly 1 out of every 8.

I hope that my family made it home today, because I didn’t get any frantic phone calls. ![]()
Family Status
My family is still alive, having not met their ends at the hands of the Great Outdoors nor Downtown Seattle nor the Terrible Heat nor Each Other. We sailed the seas with Captain Jack Sparrow and his miscreant crews on Friday. We went up north-nor’east to the Big Four Ice Caves and experienced nature’s air conditioning on Saturday. We covered a fish market, a church, and an old gasworks yesterday, and on our final journey, we’ll head west and hop over the Sound to Hurricane Ridge.
I wasn’t planning on going with them today, but as I laid in bed last night — well… as I laid on the futon last night — I thought about what I was going to do instead (get some work done) and applied my Ten Years principle (”Ten years from now, which will I remember doing?”) and realized that I see family so infrequently, and we’re all together so infrequently, and who knows when they’ll ever all be up here (unmarried) again, and I knew what I had to do.
Hopefully tomorrow they’ll stop interrupting my life, and I’ll be able to get some sleep again. ![]()
Update
My family is here!
Oh, and when I asked Mom what she wanted to do while they’re here, her answer was “Well… Pirates of the Carribbean 2 comes out the day we arrive, so I was wondering…” Thirty-five hundred miles and they want to watch a movie. Oh well. ![]()
