Good News, Everybody
I received a particularly startling yellow postcard in the mail yesterday. Despite what it says, there’s not really a warrant for my arrest in College Station. *whew*
Edit: This is what it said:
OFFICIAL NOTICE
Please be advised that our office is currently holding a
WARRANT FOR YOUR ARREST
In order to avoid physical arrest at your home
or work, you must contact the College Station Municipal Court
immediately or bring this notice with you to:
[address]
This notice is a courtesy and not required by law.
We accept: cash, check, money order, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover
Thanks to Jacob, for a while I wondered if I could now be prosecuted by the FBI for crossing state lines while a warrant was in effect.

Good news — there’s hope for me yet! About 3/4 of the way down this page is the “Help for a Calvinist Packet”, which could possibly cure me of this debilitating doctrine. Anyone have $37.50 for a good cause? ![]()
“A fellow of infinite jest” and all that
My friend Alex, a master of wit and cultural literacy, dropped a bomb by revealing part of the script from M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film, Lady In The Water. Excerpt below, more at the link.
LADY IN THE WATER: THE SCRIPTFADE IN:
INT. A CREEPY-LOOKING APARTMENT COMPLEX.
PAUL GIAMATTI
I am Cleveland Heep. Note how subtly M. Night Shyamalan emphasizes my intrinsic crumminess.
EXT. A LOW-ANGLE SHOT of some BUSHES. It is very CREEPY.
PAUL GIAMATTI finds BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD in the CREEPY-LOOKING APARTMENT COMPLEX SWIMMING POOL.
PAUL GIAMATTI
Weren’t you in MANDERLAY? You completely ruined the character played so brilliantly by NICOLE KIDMAN in DOGVILLE.
BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD
Funny to hear that from a mediocre actor whose fledging career was revived by a single semi-successful movie.
PAUL GIAMATTI
I love you, Bryce Dallas Howard.

The Value of a Dollar
My folks got a 1976 VW bug in exchange for one United States dollar when they were wed in 1981. I got a copy of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” for a similar price at Half Price Books the other night. Unless another opportunity like theirs comes along, it’s going to be hard to top this as “the best dollar I ever spent.”

While I was home, I was told — many times — that I need to update more often, so, uhh… here’s an update. ![]()
