…are pretty cool. I’ve been using it as my media player since right around the time when it was released for Windows, so I have a playlist called “One Year Old” that lists all of the music that I’ve listened to but not in the last year (Play Count is greater than 0, Last Played is not in the last 12 months). The oldest group of songs on the list is from the Myst III Soundtrack, which I last heard on November 13, 2003 between 4:24 and 4:44 AM. I start to wonder — what was I doing at four in the morning? Dig out an old planner, and it looks like I had Algorithms homework due the next day and a 5:00 AM class registration time, so I just stayed up until I registered. Interesting.
Another playlist, “Never Been List” shows songs that I’ve never heard (Play Count is 0, Genre does not contain Podcast or Audiobook) — 1319 items, 6.6 days, 8.89 GB. With a total music library size of 2627 items, 10.8 days, and 16.93 GB, I suddenly feel like a very gluttonous American. I’d like to figure out how to determine how much of that is from CDs I own (as opposed to freely-available music online or game ReMixes), but I’m not sure how to tag or extract that information easily…

\”The resulting comparator violates one of the four technical restrictions that we keep talking about (transitivity) and produces horrible, subtle bugs. This is not a purely theoretical concern; people get burned by it.\”
You have to love documentation that sounds like it was written by a real person.

Post-It Notes(tm) make a very satisfying sound when removed from the pad (brought to my attention by Nancy).

Susie: You again?!
Calvin: Was I here before?
Susie: Are you crazy?! You were here just two minutes ago!
Calvin: Uh-oh. I’m not still here, am I?
Susie: You’re standing right there!
Calvin: Well anyone can see that! Am I here anywhere else?!
*SLAM!*
Calvin: Sheesh. Who can fathom the feminine mind?
Hobbes: I like ‘em anyway.

I can’t remember another movie trailer that I’ve enjoyed as much as the one that I saw for Lady in the Water before Harry Potter. In order to get the full effect, you need to not know anything about the film, so I’ve taken the liberty of providing links to the small, medium, large, and High-Def (480p, 720p, 1080p) versions of the trailer so that you don’t see anything before watching it (QuickTime 7 required). Discuss.

Overall, I finished 1978th out of 3838 participants, or just barely in the top half. In my age group (20-24 M), the page says that I finished 102nd out of 162 runners, but that’s counting the gun time and not the chip time — it took about three minutes to get up to the starting line from where we were. I think that I spent about 30 seconds walking while getting water at the 4.5 and 6 mile splits, so in the future, I need to practice running and drinking at the same time. I think that an attainable goal will be to knock a minute off my pace for a 10K, which would put me tanalizingly close to besting Dimitri’s time for the Run Through the Vines. Take that, you Russian scallywag!

Yesterday I:
a) Got up at a quarter ’til five to fight the madmen at Fry’s for their doorbuster sales items.
b) Watched the Aggies get closer to beating the Longhorns than they’ve ever been during my time as a student.
c) Watched ‘arold Potter and the Goblin on Fire.
d) All of the above.

I finished the 8-mile Dallas Turkey Trot this morning in 1:11:56. ![]()
Now… I ran eight miles, I’m full of turkey and Thanksgiving goodness, and the football game is about to come on. I think we all know what I’ll be doing…
P.S. Happy Thanksgiving!

If anyone else runs ForecastFox, you’ve probably seen half a dozen “Severe Weather Alert” messages in the last day or so. If not, it’s a “Red Flag Warning” stating that:
STRONG NORTH WINDS WILL SPREAD ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS IN THE WAKE OF A COLD FRONT THAT MOVED OFF THE COAST EARLIER THIS EVENING. VERY DRY AIR WILL SPREAD SOUTH ACROSS THE AREA TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY AS STIFF NORTHERLY WINDS PREVAIL.
Translation? “Watch out, folks, because it’s going to be seasonably cool today.”
